EMF

EMF are a British alternative rock band from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, who broke through at the start of the 1990s as part of the era's crossover between indie guitar bands and dance culture. Their name, an acronym for Epsom Mad Funkers, referenced a fan club devoted to the band New Order, signalling from the outset the mix of guitar-driven rock and club-informed rhythm that defined their sound.

The band's defining moment came with «Unbelievable», a track that fused a driving rock riff with sampled vocal snippets and dance-club energy, becoming a huge international hit and remaining their signature song decades later. Surrounding it, singles like «Children» and «Lies» further established them within the baggy and early Britpop-adjacent scene, capturing a moment when British guitar music was absorbing electronic and hip-hop textures.

EMF's career has been marked by stops and restarts rather than a single continuous run: the band went through two separate hiatuses and returned for three distinct reunions. Their persistence eventually led to Go Go Sapiens, released in 2022 as their long-awaited fourth studio album, showing a band still actively recording decades after their initial breakthrough. Tracks such as «Travelling Not Running» and «I Believe» round out a catalogue that captures both their early-90s dance-rock peak and their later, more mature output.
