Electric Guest

Electric Guest is an American band from Los Angeles formed in 2011 by singer-songwriter Asa Taccone and drummer Matthew Compton. Taccone, brother of Saturday Night Live writer and Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone, brought a background in comedy-adjacent music production into a project that quickly took a more earnest, genre-blending direction. The band's sound mixes indie pop, soul-inflected vocals, and electronic production, drawing comparisons to acts like MGMT and Mayer Hawthorne while carving its own falsetto-driven identity.

Their debut album, Mondo, released in 2012, was produced by Danger Mouse, who signed the band to his Downtown/DangerMouse-affiliated projects and helped shape its polished, hook-heavy sound. Singles such as «Awake», «This Head I Hold», and «American Daydream» brought the band festival attention and sync placements in film, television, and advertising, which became a major source of their broader recognition.

Electric Guest followed with Plural in 2017 and KIN in 2019, both showing a more textured, electronic-leaning evolution while keeping Taccone's soulful vocal style at the center. Live, the group performs as a four-piece with additional touring members, and the band has remained a steady presence in the American indie-pop landscape without chasing mainstream chart success, instead building a loyal following through touring and licensing.
