Elaine Paige

Elaine Paige, born Elaine Jill Bickerstaff on March 5, 1948 in Barnet, England, is a British singer and actress widely regarded as one of the leading figures of English-language musical theatre. She rose to prominence in the late 1970s and became closely associated with several of the genre's most iconic roles, most notably originating the role of Grizabella in Andrew Lloyd Webber's «Cats», for which her rendition of «Memory» became a signature song and a defining recording of her career.

Her voice combines rich, theatrical power with an emotive, pop-inflected phrasing that made her recordings accessible far beyond traditional musical-theatre audiences, helping several of her songs cross over onto pop charts.
