Edward Maya

Edward Maya is the stage name of Eduard Marian Ilie, a Romanian DJ, producer and singer-songwriter who emerged from the late-2000s European dance scene. He became a global phenomenon in 2009 with «Stereo Love», a track built around a sampled accordion riff that fused Balkan folk melody with pulsing electro-house production, topping charts across Europe and cracking mainstream playlists in the US and beyond.

Maya's sound sits at the crossroads of commercial pop, house and Romanian dance music, characterized by catchy instrumental hooks, radio-friendly structures and collaborations with vocalists such as Vika Jigulina, whose voice featured on «Stereo Love». He followed up with singles like «This Is My Life» and «Desert Rain», continuing the same formula of melodic, dance-floor-oriented pop.

While he never fully replicated the scale of his breakout hit, «Stereo Love» remains one of the best-selling and most-remixed dance singles of its era, cementing Edward Maya's place as one of Romania's most internationally recognized electronic music exports.
