Eddie Meduza

Eddie Meduza, born Errol Leonard Norstedt, was a Swedish musician and songwriter working primarily in rockabilly and raggare-influenced rock and roll. He built a devoted cult following in Sweden from the late 1970s onward, becoming a defining voice of the raggare subculture — car enthusiasts drawn to American 1950s style, hot rods, and rockabilly music. His stage persona was deliberately crude and provocative, mixing humor with explicit, often obscene lyrics about drinking, women, and cars.

Musically, Eddie Meduza drew on classic rockabilly and boogie rock structures, played with a raw, garage-band energy that stood in sharp contrast to the polished Swedish pop of his era. Songs like «Ragga Runt» and «Volvo» became anthems within the raggare car culture, celebrating the lifestyle of cruising, drinking, and rebellion, while other tracks carried a satirical or politically charged edge beneath the vulgar surface.

Despite — or because of — his refusal to soften his image for mainstream radio, Eddie Meduza became one of the most recognizable cult figures in Swedish rock history, and his songs remain fixtures at raggare gatherings and car meets decades after his death in 2002. His influence persists as a symbol of unpolished, unapologetic Swedish rock and roll.
