About the artist
Ebony, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng (1997–2018), was a Ghanaian dancehall and Afrobeats artist who rose rapidly to become one of the most prominent voices in Ghanaian popular music before her death at just twenty years old. She was discovered and mentored by producer/artist Bullet of the duo Ruff n Smooth, whose Ruff Town Records label helped shape and launch her career.
Her sound blended dancehall rhythms with Afrobeats and highlife influences, delivered in a fusion of Twi and English that resonated widely across Ghana and the broader West African region. Hits like «Poison» and «Kupe» established her as a defining figure of the dancehall-Afrobeats wave sweeping Ghana in the mid-2010s, known for confident, danceable songs alongside more introspective, gospel-tinged material such as «John 8:7».
Ebony's career, though brief, left a lasting impact on Ghanaian music, with her catalog including tracks like «Date Ur Fada», «Maame Hwɛ» and «Aseda» continuing to be celebrated after her death in a car accident in February 2018. She remains remembered as a trailblazing young star whose energy and versatility helped redefine Ghana's contemporary music scene.
