About the artist
Duran Duran formed in Birmingham, England, in the late 1970s, taking their name from a character in the 1968 film «Barbarella». The band became one of the defining acts of the 1980s new wave and synth-pop movement, fusing danceable rhythms and glossy electronic production with an emphasis on striking visuals and fashion, helping to popularize the pop music video as an art form in the early MTV era.
Their classic lineup produced a run of globally successful singles including «Hungry Like the Wolf», «Rio», «The Reflex», and «Save a Prayer», alongside the James Bond theme «A View to a Kill», which topped the US charts. Their sound combined funk-influenced basslines, synthesizers, and polished pop songwriting, drawing on influences ranging from punk to disco. The band has continued to release music across the decades, scoring further hits such as «Ordinary World» and «Come Undone» in the 1990s, which showed a more introspective, ballad-oriented side of their songwriting.
Duran Duran's blend of style, sound, and visual identity made them one of the most commercially successful and internationally recognized bands to emerge from the British new wave scene, with an enduring influence on pop and electronic music that persists well beyond their original era.
