Dschinghis Khan

Dschinghis Khan is a German pop group formed in 1979 by producer Ralph Siegel and lyricist Bernd Meinunger specifically to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, which they represented that year with the eponymous single «Dschinghis Khan», finishing fourth. The original lineup featured multiple singers performing in colorful, theatrical costumes, blending disco rhythms with folkloric and Eastern-tinged melodies.

The group's biggest international hit came with «Moskau», a bombastic disco anthem celebrating the Soviet capital that became a massive success across Europe and remains a staple at football matches and parties, particularly in Russia and Germany, despite its ironic tone. Other tracks such as «Samurai» and «Genghis Khan» continued the group's formula of exotic historical or geographic themes paired with catchy, danceable arrangements.
