Doris Day

Doris Day, born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff in Cincinnati, Ohio, was one of the defining American entertainers of the mid-20th century, achieving stardom as both a big-band vocalist and a Hollywood film star. She began her career as a singer with dance bands in the early 1940s before signing with Columbia Records, where she recorded prolifically from 1947 into the 1960s, blending traditions of swing-era pop with the emerging sound of post-war easy listening.

Her signature hits, including «Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)», «Secret Love», and «Sentimental Journey», showcased her warm, clear vocal delivery and made her one of the most successful female recording artists of her era. «Que Sera, Sera», written for Alfred Hitchcock's «The Man Who Knew Too Much», in which Day starred, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became her most enduring signature tune.

Parallel to her recording career, Day became one of the top box-office draws in American cinema during the 1950s and 1960s, starring in films such as «Calamity Jane» and «Pillow Talk», the latter earning her an Academy Award nomination. She later starred in the television series «The Doris Day Show».
