DNCE

DNCE is an American pop-rock band formed in 2015, fronted by singer Joe Jonas alongside guitarist JinJoo Lee and drummer Jack Lawless; bassist Cole Whittle was also a founding member during the band's active years. The group emerged as Joe Jonas's project after the initial Jonas Brothers hiatus, quickly distinguishing itself with a funk-inflected, dance-pop sound built on groovy basslines, retro synths, and playful, flirtatious lyrics.

DNCE broke through almost immediately with their debut single «Cake By The Ocean», a slinky, innuendo-laden hit that became a global top-ten smash and defined their sound going forward. It anchored their debut EP SWAAY and set up their self-titled full-length album, which added singles like «Toothbrush» and «Body Moves» to their catalog. The band leaned into a retro-funk, disco-pop aesthetic reminiscent of Prince and Nile Rodgers-style guitar work, filtered through 2010s pop production.

After releasing the EP People to People in 2018, DNCE went on hiatus as Joe Jonas returned to the reformed Jonas Brothers. Despite a relatively brief run of releases, the band left a lasting mark on mid-2010s pop with its distinctive fusion of funk, rock, and dance elements.
