About the artist
Diplo, born Thomas Wesley Pentz in Tupelo, Mississippi, is an American DJ, producer, and songwriter who has become one of the most versatile figures in modern electronic and pop music. He first drew attention with his 2004 debut album «Florida» and founded the label Mad Decent in 2005, which became a launching pad for a wide range of global bass and dance sounds.
Diplo's production work spans continents and genres, blending dancehall, moombahton, trap, and pop into a distinctly maximalist, club-ready sound. He co-produced M.I.A.'s Grammy-nominated «Paper Planes», and his group Major Lazer — formed with Switch and later joined by Jillionaire and Walshy Fire — brought Caribbean-influenced dance music to mainstream audiences worldwide. His collaboration with Skrillex as Jack Ü further cemented his standing in the EDM world, earning multiple Grammy nominations.
Beyond his own releases like «Wish» and «Welcome to the Party», Diplo has shaped the sound of countless pop and hip-hop records as a producer and remixer, and hosts the long-running «Diplo and Friends» radio show on BBC Radio 1Xtra. His restless genre-hopping and knack for spotting emerging sounds have made him a central connector between underground dance scenes and the pop mainstream.
