About the artist
Diana Ross is an American singer, actress and record producer from Detroit, Michigan, who rose to international fame in the 1960s as the lead singer of The Supremes, Motown's flagship vocal group and one of the best-selling girl groups in history. Her voice — light, breathy and instantly recognizable — helped define the polished, orchestral Motown sound that crossed over from R&B into mainstream pop.
After leaving The Supremes in 1970, Ross launched a hugely successful solo career, scoring number-one hits such as «Ain't No Mountain High Enough», «Touch Me in the Morning», «Theme from Mahogany» and «Love Hangover». In the late 1970s she embraced disco with «Upside Down» and «I'm Coming Out», tracks produced by Chic's Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards that remain among her most enduring recordings.
Beyond music, Ross built a career as an actress, most notably in «Lady Sings the Blues» and «Mahogany», and became a cultural icon of glamour and reinvention. Her influence spans disco, soul and pop, and her catalog continues to be sampled and covered across genres.
