About the artist
Dev, born Devin Star Tailes, is an American singer, rapper and songwriter from California whose breakout came through electro-pop production duo The Cataracs, who discovered her online and built much of her early sound around club-ready synths and playful, deadpan vocal hooks. Her voice became widely known through the Far East Movement hit «Like a G6», which sampled her earlier song «Booty Bounce» and topped the US charts.
Signed to Universal Republic, she released her debut single «Bass Down Low» in 2010, a UK top-10 hit, followed by her debut album The Night the Sun Came Up (2012), which also produced the single «In the Dark». Her music sits at the intersection of pop, electronic and rap, characterized by minimal, hooky production and a cool, unbothered vocal delivery that fit the early-2010s electro-pop and EDM-pop wave alongside acts she frequently collaborated with, including The Cataracs and Far East Movement.
After a period focused on EPs such as Bittersweet July, Dev became a radio host on Apple's Beats 1 in the mid-2010s, extending her presence in pop culture beyond recording. She returned to releasing music later in the decade, continuing to work in the electro-pop and dance-pop space she helped popularize earlier in her career.
