Demis Roussos

Demis Roussos was a Greek singer whose warm, distinctive tenor voice made him one of the most internationally successful Greek artists of the 20th century. He first gained recognition as a member of Aphrodite's Child, the progressive-pop group he formed with Vangelis and others in the late 1960s, before launching a hugely popular solo career across Europe in the 1970s.

His solo sound moved away from the group's psychedelic and progressive leanings toward lush, orchestral easy-listening pop, often delivered in a flowing caftan and marked by his powerful, emotive vocal style. Hits such as «Forever and Ever», «Rain and Tears», and «My Friend the Wind» became European standards, blending Mediterranean melodic warmth with sweeping arrangements that appealed to a broad, multigenerational audience.

Roussos became one of the best-selling artists of his era in continental Europe, particularly beloved in France, Germany, and across the Mediterranean, and his music remains closely tied to the romantic, orchestral pop sound of the 1970s.
