About the artist

David Tomlinson (1917–2000) was an English actor best remembered for his work in classic Disney family films of the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Henley-on-Thames, he trained on the London stage before moving into film in the 1940s and building a career playing charming, often flustered English gentlemen.

His most famous role came in 1964 as Mr. George Banks, the stern banker father in «Mary Poppins», where he performed songs written by the Sherman Brothers, including «Let's Go Fly a Kite», «The Life I Lead» and «Fidelity Fiduciary Bank». He later starred as the eccentric amateur magician Emelius Browne in «Bedknobs and Broomsticks» (1971), singing «Portobello Road» and «With a Flair», and appeared in «Chitty Chitty Bang Bang» (1968).

Tomlinson's vocal performances, though not those of a trained singer, became beloved for their theatrical charm and comic timing, cementing his place as one of the defining voices of Disney's golden era of live-action musicals.
