Darude

Darude, the stage name of Toni-Ville Virtanen, is a Finnish DJ and record producer born in 1975 who emerged from the late-1990s European trance scene. He became a global phenomenon with his 1999 single «Sandstorm», an instrumental trance anthem whose driving synth riff turned it into one of the most recognizable dance tracks ever made, later achieving a second life as an internet meme and a staple of sports arenas and esports events.

Beyond «Sandstorm», Darude built a career centered on the anthemic, melodic side of trance, drawing comparisons to peers like Tiësto and Ferry Corsten. His debut album Before the Storm remains his most celebrated release, while later work such as «Feel the Beat» showed him embracing more contemporary electronic and pop-leaning production, including collaborations with vocalists and remixers who reworked his catalogue for new audiences.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, Darude has continually revisited and reworked his signature material, releasing remixes and reworks of «Sandstorm» and «Feel the Beat» that keep his sound relevant to newer electronic music listeners.
