Daphne Rubin-Vega is a Panamanian-American actress and singer born in 1969, best known for originating the role of Mimi Marquez in the groundbreaking Broadway musical RENT. Her performance helped define the show’s raw, rock-infused take on musical theater, and songs from that production, including «Out Tonight» and «Light My Candle», remain among her most recognized recordings.

Beyond RENT, Rubin-Vega has built a career spanning stage, film and television, originating the role of Lucy in the Off-Broadway play Jack Goes Boating and playing Magenta in a Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show. She also appeared as publicist Agnes on the NBC series Smash, extending her presence beyond theater into mainstream television.
