About the artist
Danny Elfman is an American composer, singer, songwriter, and producer who first rose to prominence in the 1980s as the frontman of the new wave and ska-influenced rock band Oingo Boingo. Largely self-taught as a musician, Elfman brought an eclectic, theatrical sensibility to his early work that would later define his film scoring career. His breakthrough into film music came through a long and prolific partnership with director Tim Burton, beginning with «Pee-wee's Big Adventure» and continuing through films such as «Beetlejuice», «Batman», and «Edward Scissorhands».
Among his most celebrated projects is «The Nightmare Before Christmas», for which he not only composed the score but also performed the singing voice of Jack Skellington, delivering memorable songs like «What's This?» and «Jack's Lament». His work on «Batman» earned him a Grammy Award, and he has become one of the most recognizable voices in film scoring, known for blending orchestral grandeur with quirky, offbeat melodic touches.
Beyond his extensive Burton collaborations, Elfman composed the instantly recognizable main theme for «The Simpsons» and has scored a vast range of films across genres, from superhero blockbusters to dark comedies. His musical language draws on carnival-esque orchestration, gothic atmosphere, and a background in rock and world music, making his scores distinctive within both the film music world and the broader pop and rock landscape.
