Culture Club

Culture Club are an English pop and new wave band formed in London in 1981, fronted by the flamboyant, androgynous Boy George alongside bassist Mikey Craig, drummer Jon Moss and guitarist Roy Hay. The band's name was chosen to reflect the diverse cultural backgrounds of its members, and their sound fused reggae- and soul-inflected pop hooks with the polished production of early-80s new wave.

Signed to Virgin Records, Culture Club became global stars once Boy George's striking visual image caught media attention, and their second album, «Colour by Numbers», turned them into one of the defining pop acts of the era. Its lead single, «Karma Chameleon», became an international number one and remains their signature song, alongside hits like «Do You Really Want to Hurt Me» and «Time (Clock of the Heart)».

The band split in 1986 amid internal tensions but has reunited intermittently since for tours and occasional new material, with Boy George's distinctive voice and the group's crossover of soul, pop and new wave remaining central to their enduring reputation as one of the defining British pop acts of the 1980s.
