Crazy Frog

Crazy Frog is a virtual character and viral music phenomenon that originated as a ringtone animation in the early 2000s, created by Swedish animator Erik Wernquist under the name «The Annoying Thing» before being commercially adapted by the ringtone company Jamba!/Jamster.

The character exploded into mainstream popularity with «Axel F», a cover of Harold Faltermeyer's «Beverly Hills Cop» theme, which topped the charts in the UK and several European countries. Its success led to multiple studio albums and singles, blending eurodance and novelty pop production with the character's signature buzzing vocal effects.

While Crazy Frog never achieved comparable success in the US, it became a defining piece of European pop culture nostalgia from the mid-2000s. After years of relative dormancy, the character resurfaced with new music in the early 2020s, introducing the phenomenon to a new generation online.
