About the artist
Cornelius is the stage name of Keigo Oyamada, a Japanese musician, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Tokyo. He first rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s as one half of the J-pop duo Flipper's Guitar alongside Kenji Ozawa, a group central to the Shibuya-kei movement that fused Western pop, jazz, and lounge influences with Japanese sensibilities. After the duo disbanded, he launched his solo project under the name Cornelius.
As a solo artist, Cornelius became known for a restless, genre-hopping sound that blends electronic music, psychedelia, rock, and pop with meticulous studio craftsmanship and playful sound design. Albums such as Fantasma and Point earned him international recognition and cult status among fans of experimental pop, admired for their dense sampling, sudden stylistic shifts, and immaculate production.
Beyond his own releases, Cornelius has worked extensively as a producer and remixer for other artists and contributed music to film, television, and video games, including the theme for the anime series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. He remains one of Japan's most internationally recognized figures in experimental and alternative pop music.
