About the artist
Cookie Monster is a Muppet character on the long-running children's television series Sesame Street, created by Jim Henson's workshop and first appearing when the show launched in 1969. Blue-furred, googly-eyed and driven by an insatiable appetite, he is one of the most recognizable characters in children's television, instantly identifiable by catchphrases like «Me want cookie!» and the sound «om nom nom nom» he makes while devouring anything in reach.
Originally voiced by Frank Oz and later by David Rudman, Cookie Monster has appeared in countless sketches, songs and specials over the decades, often used by the show to gently teach self-control and healthy eating habits alongside his trademark gluttony — including segments where he learns that cookies are a «sometimes food». His musical numbers, from novelty songs to parodies, have become a recurring and beloved part of the Sesame Street format.
Beyond the show itself, Cookie Monster has become a broader pop-culture icon, appearing in merchandising, guest spots and cultural references far outside children's programming, a testament to the character's enduring, cross-generational appeal.
