College

College is the recording name of French electronic musician David Grellier, active since the mid-2000s. He works in the retro-synth, synthwave and Italo-disco-influenced vein, building tracks around vintage analog synthesizer tones, drum-machine rhythms and a nostalgic, cinematic mood evoking 1980s film scores and electro-pop.

He reached his widest audience through «A Real Hero», a collaboration with singer Electric Youth, which appeared on the soundtrack of the 2011 film Drive. The song's sparse, glowing synth-pop sound became closely associated with the film's aesthetic and helped popularize the retrowave/synthwave sound to a mainstream audience beyond the genre's niche following.

Beyond that breakthrough, College has released a steady stream of albums and singles exploring the same retro-futurist palette, often instrumental and cinematic in scope, cementing his place as one of the founding figures of the synthwave scene alongside acts like Kavinsky and Mitch Murder.
