COIN

COIN is an American synth-pop and indie rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2013. The group's core lineup consists of Chase Lawrence on lead vocals and synth, Joe Memmel on guitar and vocals, and Ryan Winnen on drums, with Zachary Dyke playing bass through the band's earlier years. The name comes from Lucky Coin, a racehorse name Lawrence stumbled upon in an old winner's book at an antique store, and the band has described its music as a product of the 1990s, filtered through modern pop songwriting.

COIN's sound blends bright, hook-driven synth-pop with guitar textures and an unabashed pop sensibility, drawing comparisons to acts like The Killers and citing David Byrne's approach to smart, accessible pop as an influence. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 2015, produced by Jay Joyce, and introduced the band's blend of danceable melodies and emotionally direct lyrics. The 2017 follow-up, How Will You Know If You Never Try, built on that foundation and produced the alternative radio hit «Talk Too Much».

The band continued to evolve across Dreamland in 2020 and a mixtape the following year, eventually scoring their first Billboard No. 1 with the 2022 album Uncanny Valley, led by the single «Chapstick». Songs like «Malibu 1992», «Crash My Car», and «Cemetery» have become staples of their live shows and streaming catalog, cementing COIN's place among the more melodically ambitious bands to emerge from the 2010s indie-pop scene.
