Clairo

Clairo, born Claire Elizabeth Cottrill on August 18, 1998 in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Carlisle, Massachusetts, is an American singer-songwriter who emerged as a defining voice of DIY bedroom pop. She began self-releasing music in her teens with the EP Do U Wanna Fall In Love?, but rose to wider attention in 2017 when her lo-fi, home-recorded single «Pretty Girl» went viral online, establishing the hazy, intimate aesthetic she would become known for.

Her 2019 debut full-length, Immunity, refined that bedroom-pop sound into something more polished while retaining its diaristic, understated intimacy, exploring themes of identity and sexuality with a soft, conversational vocal delivery. Tracks like «Sofia» and «Bags» became touchstones of the genre, influencing a generation of young musicians recording in home studios.

Beyond her solo work, Clairo formed the band Shelly in 2020 with friends Claud, Josh Mehling, and Noa Getzug, further exploring collaborative, lo-fi songwriting. Her music draws on influences ranging from Al Green's soul to Cocteau Twins' dream pop, a blend she has credited to her parents, and her subsequent releases have continued to move toward warmer, more organic, folk- and soul-inflected arrangements.
