Christine and the Queens

Christine and the Queens is the stage name of French singer-songwriter and producer Héloïse Letissier, who has also performed under the name Redcar. The project emerged from Nantes and was shaped in part by time spent among London's queer cabaret performers, debuting with a run of EPs between 2011 and 2013 that built a devoted following ahead of the 2014 breakthrough album «Chaleur Humaine». That record fused French chanson sensibility with synth-pop and R&B-inflected production, propelled by singles such as «Tilted» and «Christine», and earned major recognition including Victoires de la Musique honors.

The artist's work is distinguished by an androgynous stage presence, sharp choreography drawing on voguing and contemporary dance, and lyrics that explore gender, identity and desire with a candor unusual in French pop. Later releases pushed further into English-language material and denser, more maximalist pop production, widening the project's audience well beyond France.

Christine and the Queens has become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary French pop, admired for merging art-pop theatricality with genuine emotional vulnerability, and for treating stage performance and music video as extensions of a single artistic practice.
