About the artist
Chas & Dave are an English duo formed by Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock, best known for pioneering «rockney» — a self-coined blend of rock-and-roll and boogie-woogie piano with cockney pub-singalong lyrics and London vernacular. Both musicians had extensive backgrounds as session players and in pub-rock bands before teaming up in the mid-1970s.
Their breakthrough came in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits like «Gertcha» and «Rabbit», the latter a novelty song about a nagging partner that became emblematic of their cheeky, working-class London humor. «The Sideboard Song» and «London Girls» further cemented their reputation as chroniclers of everyday English life, delivered with boogie-woogie piano runs and singalong choruses built for pub and football-terrace atmospheres.
Beyond novelty appeal, Chas & Dave developed a devoted following for their musicianship, with Chas Hodges's piano work rooted in genuine rock-and-roll and rockabilly craft. Associated closely with Tottenham Hotspur through anthems like «Ossie's Dream», the duo remained a beloved fixture of British popular culture for decades, continuing to perform together until Chas Hodges's death in 2018.
