Charles & Eddie

Charles & Eddie were an American R&B/soul duo formed by Charles Pettigrew and Eddie Chacon, who met in New York City and bonded over a shared love of vintage soul music. They rose to international fame in the early 1990s with the single «Would I Lie to You?», a warm, harmony-driven track that recalled classic 1970s soul while fitting comfortably into contemporary radio formats of the era.

Their sound was defined by close vocal harmonies, retro instrumentation, and an easygoing, feel-good quality that set them apart from the new jack swing and hip-hop-inflected R&B dominating the charts at the time. Their debut album, Duophonic, produced further singles including «N.Y.C.» and «24-7-365», though none matched the commercial impact of their breakout hit.

The duo released a second album before parting ways, and Charles Pettigrew passed away in 2001. Eddie Chacon later returned to music as a solo artist. Charles & Eddie remain best remembered as a one-hit-wonder act whose signature song has endured as a staple of retro and soul playlists.
