The Cast of the Motion Picture Rent refers to the ensemble of actors who performed the songs for the 2005 film adaptation of the rock musical Rent, itself based on Puccini's opera La Boheme and reimagined by composer and lyricist Jonathan Larson as a story of struggling artists in New York's East Village during the AIDS crisis. Larson died suddenly the night before the show's first Off-Broadway preview in 1996, and the musical went on to become a landmark of American theater, winning the Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony Awards before the film brought much of its songbook to a wider audience.
