High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a Disney+ mockumentary-style spinoff set at the fictional East High, the same school from the original High School Musical film trilogy. Running for four seasons from 2019 to 2023, it followed real students staging their own productions of High School Musical and, later, other shows including Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.

The series launched the careers of Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Matt Cornett and Sofia Wylie, among others, and became known for blending scripted teen drama with original songs — some written by the cast themselves — alongside covers of classic High School Musical numbers like «Born to Be Brave» and «Second Chance». Its pop-leaning sound mixed contemporary singer-songwriter sensibilities with the earnest, theatrical energy of its Disney Channel predecessor.

The show’s final season built toward a full staging of High School Musical 3, closing the loop between the meta-fictional series and the franchise that inspired it. Along the way it helped several cast members, most notably Olivia Rodrigo, launch major solo music careers beyond the show itself.
