Carman

Carman, born Carmelo Domenic Licciardello, was an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, and evangelist whose career blurred the line between concert and revival meeting. Rather than performing traditional worship music, he built elaborate stage shows combining pop hooks, theatrical storytelling, dance, and spoken-word preaching, positioning himself as much a showman as a minister.

His best-known songs, such as «The Champion» and «I Feel Jesus», exemplify his signature style: bombastic, narrative-driven pieces built for arena-scale performance, often structured almost like short musical dramas rather than conventional verse-chorus songs. Tracks like «God's Got an Army» and «Revival in the Land» reflect his recurring themes of spiritual warfare and mass revival, delivered with a showmanship rare in the CCM genre of his era.

Carman became one of the biggest draws in Christian music history by attendance, filling major stadiums and drawing tens of thousands to single concerts, with his events frequently ending in large-scale altar calls. His approach — treating the concert itself as an evangelistic tool rather than simply a performance — made him a singular and influential figure in American Christian music, even as his theatrical style set him apart from more conventional CCM artists of his generation. He died in 2021.
