Caramella Girls

Caramella Girls is a Swedish pop project formed in 2008 by Racheal Alicost, Lucky McSozzen and Karin Ellis, arising in the wake of Caramell, the group behind the original «Caramelldansen». When Caramell went on indefinite hiatus after their 2002 album «Supergott», Caramella Girls picked up where they left off, initially releasing sped-up remixes of Supergott tracks before moving on to original material.

The project is best known for its speedy remix of «Caramelldansen», a bubbly, high-BPM Europop track built on saccharine synths and cheerful vocal harmonies. That version became a genuine internet phenomenon in the early 2010s, spawning a viral flash animation of dancing anime characters and an accompanying dance move that spread widely across early social media and meme culture, well beyond the reach of the original Caramell recording.

Sonically, Caramella Girls sits within the eurodance and speed-up pop tradition, prioritizing hyper-catchy hooks and relentless tempo over lyrical depth, a style tailor-made for looped, meme-friendly consumption. While the group has not achieved mainstream chart success outside their signature hit, «Caramelldansen» secured them a lasting place in internet music culture as one of the defining sounds of a particular strain of 2010s online humor and dance-video fandom.
