About the artist
Car-Man is a Soviet and Russian pop group formed in Moscow in 1989 by Sergey Lemokh. The band became one of the most recognizable acts of early-1990s post-Soviet pop, known for a playful, dance-oriented sound built around simple hooks, travelogue-style lyrics naming foreign cities, and an image that mixed Western disco-pop influences with an ironic, theatrical stage presence.
The group's breakthrough came with singles such as «Лондон, гуд бай», «Сан-Франциско» and «Чио-Чио-сан», which turned Car-Man into a fixture of Russian radio and television during a period when the country was newly open to Western-style pop entertainment. Their songs, often built around a city or a foreign character in the title, gave listeners an escapist, cosmopolitan fantasy at a time of major social change in Russia.
Over the years Car-Man released several studio albums, moving from their debut «Вокруг света» through releases like «Кармания» and «Дизельный туман», before returning many years later with «Нитро». The band remains best remembered for its early-1990s run of hits, which are still staples of Russian retro-pop playlists.
