Captain & Tennille

Captain & Tennille were an American pop duo formed by keyboardist Daryl Dragon and singer Toni Tennille, active from the mid-1970s. Dragon had earned his nickname while working as a touring keyboardist for the Beach Boys, and after meeting Tennille through the musical Mother Earth, the two began performing together in nightclubs before signing to A&M Records.

Their sound blended soft pop, light R&B, and easy-listening arrangements built around Tennille's warm lead vocals and Dragon's keyboard work. Their breakthrough came with «Love Will Keep Us Together», a cover of a Neil Sedaka song, which topped the charts in the US and Canada and won the Grammy for Record of the Year. It became one of the defining soft-pop hits of its era.

The duo followed with further hits such as «Do That to Me One More Time», «Muskrat Love», and «Shop Around», cementing their place as one of the most commercially successful male-female duos of the 1970s. They also hosted a television variety show and remained a recognizable act of the era's easy-listening pop landscape.
