About the artist
Calum Hood is an Australian musician and songwriter, born on January 25, 1996, best known as the bassist and one of the vocalists of the pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer, which he co-founded in Sydney in 2011 alongside classmates Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford, later joined by drummer Ashton Irwin. Hood originally played guitar but switched to bass after the band decided three guitarists was one too many, and he has since become known for his driving basslines and lower, distinctive backing and lead vocals within the group.
5 Seconds of Summer broke through internationally around 2014 with the single «She Looks So Perfect», part of a wave of pop-rock acts blending punk-influenced energy with radio-friendly hooks. Beyond his role in the band, Hood has occasionally stepped into more personal, stripped-down songwriting outside the group's main pop-rock sound, exploring softer, more introspective territory in tracks like «Sunsetter» and «Three Of Swords».
As a member of one of the most commercially successful pop-rock bands to emerge in the 2010s, Hood's musical identity is closely tied to the group's evolution from teenage pop-punk energy toward a more polished, mature pop-rock sound over the years, while his solo-leaning material offers a quieter, more reflective counterpoint to that catalog.
