Calle 13

Calle 13 is a Puerto Rican group formed in San Juan in 2004, fronted by rapper and songwriter René Pérez Joglar (Residente) and his stepbrother, composer and multi-instrumentalist Eduardo Cabra Martínez (Visitante). Their half-sister Ileana Cabra Joglar (PG-13) contributed vocals on many recordings before launching her own career as iLe. The duo blended rap with rock, cumbia, plena, electronic music and countless Latin American folk styles, building a genre-fluid sound that resisted easy categorization.

From early hits like «Atrévete-Te-Te» and «Pi-di-di-di» to the politically charged «Latinoamérica» and «Multi_Viral», Calle 13 became known for sharp, often confrontational lyrics attacking governments, religion and social inequality across the region, earning the nickname La voz del pueblo latinoamericano. Their outspokenness led to repeated censorship on Puerto Rican radio even as their popularity grew across Latin America and Spain.

The group became one of the most awarded acts in Latin Grammy history, with albums such as Residente o Visitante and Entren Los Que Quieran cementing their reputation for musical ambition and lyrical daring. After going on hiatus in the 2010s, both Residente and iLe pursued acclaimed solo careers, while Calle 13 remains a landmark act in the evolution of Latin urban and alternative music.
