About the artist
Brit Smith is a singer, model, and actress from Wilton, Connecticut, who began performing as a child alongside her sister on soap operas before moving into music. As part of the pop duo Brit & Alex, formed with her sibling, she scored a minor UK hit with «Let It Go», which gained exposure after appearing on the «Step Up 2: The Streets» soundtrack.
After the duo split, Smith launched a solo career under the stage name Matisse, blending pop with R&B and dance influences. Her debut single «Better Than Her», featuring Akon, became a genuine hit, topping Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart, but the momentum stalled when her planned debut album was shelved and the follow-up single «Provocative» underperformed commercially.
Smith later stepped back from music, citing the frustration of repeated label setbacks, and shifted her focus toward the beauty industry, becoming associated with the Color Wow haircare brand. Tracks like «Karma's A Bitch», «Chocolates and Lies», and «Cupid is Stupid» remain part of a catalogue that captures a promising early-2010s pop-R&B run cut short by industry obstacles rather than a lack of talent.
