Boz Scaggs

Boz Scaggs, born William Royce Scaggs in 1944 in Ohio and raised largely in Texas, is an American singer, guitarist and songwriter whose career stretches from the blues and rock circuits of the 1960s to smooth, blue-eyed soul and yacht rock in the 1970s. He first made his name playing alongside childhood friend Steve Miller before launching a solo career, signing with Columbia Records in the early 1970s.

Scaggs's sound blends soulful, R&B-influenced vocals with polished rock and pop arrangements, later incorporating funk and disco grooves. His commercial breakthrough came with the 1976 album Silk Degrees, produced with a crack session band that later formed Toto, yielding enduring hits such as «Lowdown» and «Lido Shuffle» and cementing his place as a key figure in the smooth, sophisticated pop-rock sound of the late 1970s.

Beyond his hit-making peak, Scaggs continued recording steadily across decades, exploring blues, jazz-inflected balladry and adult-contemporary styles, and remains respected as a craftsman vocalist and guitarist whose work bridged rock, R&B and country influences throughout a long and varied catalog.
