Boyzone

Boyzone are an Irish boy band formed in Dublin in 1993 by manager Louis Walsh, who assembled the group through open auditions in the wake of Take That's success. The classic line-up featured Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch, and the band quickly became one of the defining acts of the 1990s boy-band wave in the UK and Ireland, scoring a long run of chart-topping singles and albums throughout the decade.

Musically, Boyzone specialised in polished, sentimental pop and soft R&B-tinged ballads, built around close harmonies and Keating's lead vocals, alongside occasional upbeat dance-pop numbers. Their sound leaned heavily on emotive, radio-friendly songwriting, including well-known cover versions that became signature hits alongside their original material.

The band experienced the classic boy-band arc of teen-idol fame, a hiatus as members pursued solo careers (most notably Keating), and periodic reunions and anniversary tours in the 2000s and 2010s. The death of Stephen Gately in 2009 was a major turning point for the group, and later reunion projects continued as a four-piece in his memory. Decades on, Boyzone remain one of Ireland's most commercially successful pop exports.
