Бумбокс (Boombox)

Boombox (Бумбокс) is a Ukrainian band formed in Kyiv in 2004, blending hip-hop, rock, and funk into a distinctive sound built around the expressive vocals and lyrics of frontman Andriy Khlyvniuk. The group quickly rose to prominence in Ukraine and the broader Russian-speaking music scene with a mix of rap-driven verses, live-band grooves, and hooky, melodic choruses.

Over the years Boombox's sound expanded beyond its hip-hop roots into pop-rock and funk territory, while retaining rhythmic, rap-inflected vocal delivery as a signature element. Tracks like «Вахтерам» and «Наодинці» showcase the band's range, from biting social commentary to more intimate, melodic songwriting. Khlyvniuk's charismatic stage presence and lyrical wit have made him one of the more recognizable voices in Ukrainian popular music.

Boombox holds a notable place in Ukrainian culture, and Khlyvniuk gained wider international attention in 2022 when his a cappella performance of the folk song «Oi u luzi chervona kalyna» was used by Pink Floyd in a charity single supporting Ukraine. The band continues to be a touchstone act bridging hip-hop, rock, and Ukrainian pop sensibilities.
