Bonnie Tyler

Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, is a Welsh singer renowned for her distinctive husky, rasping voice, one of the most recognizable vocal tones in pop-rock history. She broke through in the mid-1970s with «Lost in France» and «It's a Heartache», the latter becoming a major hit on both sides of the Atlantic and establishing her as a global star.

Her career reached its commercial peak in 1983 with «Total Eclipse of the Heart», written and produced by Jim Steinman, whose bombastic, theatrical style perfectly matched Tyler's powerhouse delivery; the song topped charts worldwide and remains one of the defining power ballads of the era. She followed it with «Holding Out for a Hero», featured on the Footloose soundtrack, cementing her as an icon of dramatic 1980s pop-rock.

Tyler continued to find success into the 1990s and beyond, particularly in continental Europe, with the album Bitterblue and hits including the title track and «Making Love (Out of Nothing at All)». In 2003 she scored a European hit with the bilingual duet «Si demain... (Turn Around)» alongside French singer Kareen Antonn, and in 2013 she represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest with «Believe in Me», demonstrating her enduring presence across five decades of recording.
