Bombay Jayashri

Bombay Jayashri is a leading Indian Carnatic classical vocalist from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, who has also built a substantial career in film playback singing across Tamil, Hindi and other South Indian languages. Trained in the Carnatic tradition, she is known for a rich, contemplative vocal style that carries into her film work, giving her playback performances a distinctive classical depth rarely heard in mainstream soundtracks.

Her best-known crossover hit is «Zara Zara», featured in the Hindi film «Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein», which became one of the defining romantic ballads of early-2000s Bollywood and introduced her voice to a pan-Indian audience far beyond Carnatic music circles. She later gained international recognition for composing and performing «Pi’s Lullaby» for Ang Lee’s film «Life of Pi», which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

Alongside her film work, Jayashri remains an active concert performer and teacher within the Carnatic tradition, regularly touring India and abroad.
