About the artist
BoJack Horseman is the title character of an American adult animated sitcom created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, voiced by Will Arnett. The show premiered on Netflix on August 22, 2014, and follows a washed-up 1990s sitcom star navigating fame, addiction and depression in an anthropomorphic version of Hollywood. Alongside Arnett, the cast includes Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins and Aaron Paul, with visual design by cartoonist Lisa Hanawalt.
Though not a musical act, the show produced memorable original songs and spoken-word pieces woven into specific episodes, most notably «Don’t Stop Dancing (Reprise)» and the philosophical monologue «The View from Halfway Down». These pieces sit closer to Broadway pastiche and tragicomic character work than pop songwriting, reflecting the show’s blend of absurdist comedy and unflinching looks at mental illness.
Episode scripts such as «Free Churro» and «BoJack Hates the Troops» are celebrated for their writing, often built around extended monologues delivered by Arnett. The series ran six seasons and is regarded as one of the defining animated dramedies of the Netflix era, influential for its frank treatment of depression, grief and self-destruction.
