Bleachers

Bleachers is the solo project of American singer, songwriter, and producer Jack Antonoff, best known as a member of the bands fun. and Steel Train. Formed in the early 2010s, Bleachers blends synth-driven pop production with an unmistakable nostalgia for 1980s rock and new wave, filtered through deeply personal, confessional songwriting. The project quickly established Antonoff as one of contemporary pop's most distinctive voices behind the boards, an identity that runs alongside his prolific career producing for artists like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and St. Vincent.

The debut album Strange Desire (2014) set the template: anthemic choruses, gated drums, and lyrics grappling with grief, memory, and self-image, largely written while Antonoff was touring with fun. The follow-up Gone Now (2017) pushed further into eclectic, maximalist territory while retaining the same emotional rawness. Bleachers returned in 2021 with Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night, previewed by the songs «45» and «Chinatown», the latter featuring a guest appearance from Bruce Springsteen.

The band's name evokes the feeling of sitting alone in the bleachers, watching life from the outside while yearning to belong, a theme that recurs throughout the catalog. Songs like «I Wanna Get Better» and «Rollercoaster» became signature tracks, showcasing Bleachers' ability to pair cathartic, arena-sized hooks with intimate lyrical vulnerability.
