Billy Ocean

Billy Ocean is a Trinidadian-born British R&B and pop singer who grew up in London and rose to major international success across the 1970s and especially the 1980s. His music blends soulful R&B vocals with polished, radio-friendly pop and dance production, giving him crossover appeal on both sides of the Atlantic.

Ocean's biggest hits, including «Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)», «Loverboy», «Suddenly» and «Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car», defined a distinctive mid-1980s sound built on smooth vocal delivery, glossy synth-driven production and irresistible pop hooks. «Caribbean Queen» earned him the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 1985, and «Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car» topped the US charts in 1988.

Across his career Ocean also scored hits such as «Love Really Hurts Without You», «Red Light Spells Danger» and «When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going», the latter recorded for the film Jewel of the Nile. He remains one of the most recognizable voices of 1980s pop-R&B crossover, celebrated for his warm tenor and enduring, feel-good songwriting.
