Bilderbuch

Bilderbuch is an Austrian band formed in Kremsmünster, Upper Austria, in the mid-2000s by singer Maurice Ernst, bassist Peter Horazdovsky, drummer Philipp Scheibl and guitarist Michael Krammer, who later relocated to Vienna. Starting out closer to indie and art-punk, the group progressively reinvented itself into one of the most distinctive acts in German-language pop, fusing funk, disco, hip-hop and psychedelic textures with Ernst's theatrical, half-sung half-spoken vocal delivery and playful, often surreal lyrics.

Their mid-2010s run of albums, including «Schick Schock» and «Magic Life», marked a turning point, bringing tracks like «Bungalow», «Baba» and «Maschin» to a wide German-speaking audience and establishing Bilderbuch as a defining voice of the so-called Neue Deutsche Welle revival in Austrian pop. Their sound is marked by slick, groove-driven production, glossy synth work and a strong visual identity in music videos and live shows.

Bilderbuch continued exploring more electronic and experimental directions on later releases such as «Vergiss Aloha» and «Mea Culpa», cementing their reputation as restless stylistic shapeshifters within the Austropop and German indie-pop scenes.
