Bernard Cribbins

Bernard Cribbins was an English actor, comedian and entertainer whose career spanned more than seven decades, beloved across generations for both his comic novelty songs and his extensive work in film and television. He rose to particular fame in the early 1960s with a string of humorous spoken-sung records produced by George Martin, blending music-hall storytelling with wry British comedy.

His best-known novelty hits, «Right, Said Fred» and «The Hole in the Ground», are droll character sketches set to music, showcasing his gift for comic timing and vivid vocal characterisation rather than conventional singing. «The Ugly Duckling» and «Gossip Calypso» further demonstrated his versatility with lighthearted storytelling songs aimed at a broad, family audience.
