About the artist
Bente Fokkens is a Dutch actress and singer born in Muiden, near Amsterdam. She rose to fame as a child and teen performer on Dutch television, breaking through with a lead role in the film Kappen! and later becoming widely known for playing Magenta in the Misfit film trilogy. Alongside acting, she developed a parallel career as a singer-songwriter, writing her own material and performing on guitar.
Her musical work leans toward introspective, radio-friendly Dutch-language pop, with songs that often deal with vulnerability, self-acceptance, and relationships, delivered in a conversational, intimate style typical of the Nederpop tradition of confessional singer-songwriters. She signed with the label Top Notch early in her career and released the EP Liefste, je kent mij, featuring singles that showcased her songwriting voice, and contributed vocals to a track on Dave Budha's album Mooie Droom.
Fokkens occupies a distinctive niche in the Dutch entertainment landscape as a crossover talent who moves fluidly between screen and studio, with her acting fame helping introduce audiences to her music and vice versa. Her songs and interviews often draw on personal experience, giving her pop output an autobiographical, diary-like quality that resonates especially with younger Dutch listeners who grew up watching her on screen.
