About the artist
Basim, born Anis Basim Moujahid, is a Danish pop singer and songwriter of Moroccan descent. He first gained national attention in 2008 as a contestant on the debut season of Danish X Factor, finishing in fourth place. Over the following years he released two studio albums, Alt Det Jeg Ville Have Sagt and Befri Dig Selv, along with the EP 5, establishing himself as a mainstream pop artist in Denmark.
Basim's biggest breakthrough came in 2014, when he won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song «Cliché Love Song», earning him the right to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, held in Copenhagen. The song brought him widespread recognition across Europe and remains his signature work.
After a few quieter years, Basim returned in 2017 with a new direction rooted in hip-hop, drawing on his Moroccan heritage, as heard on singles like «Comme Ci Comme Ça» and «Aji Aji». More recently he has focused primarily on songwriting for other Danish artists, including Bro and Josef Og Elias, continuing to shape Danish pop from behind the scenes.
