About the artist
Bane's World is the project of singer, songwriter and guitarist Shane Blanchard, based in Long Beach, California, with a rotating group of collaborators including Michael Seyer, Vincent Reyes and Eric Baisa helping with recording and live performances. Blanchard writes, records and produces most of the material himself, giving the project a bedroom-pop intimacy even as it draws on a wider retro sound palette.
The music blends jangly, synth-tinged guitar pop with a nostalgic sensibility that nods to 60s and 70s rock songwriting while filtering it through 80s and 90s production textures, sometimes summarised as dream pop. Tracks like «You Say I'm in Love» and «Stay Away From My Baby» pair breezy, hook-driven melodies with a hazy, lo-fi warmth, while songs such as «Still Lovely» and «Valentine's Curse» lean further into wistful, romantic themes.
Bane's World emerged from the same Long Beach and Southern California DIY scene that produced several like-minded lo-fi and indie pop acts, and Blanchard's collaborators from that circle, including Michael Seyer, have helped shape its live sound. The project's name itself is a playful accident, born from friends turning Shane Blanchard's name into a nickname rather than any deliberate reference.
